Hey Book Nerds! Today’s Top 5 Wednesday topic is “series that got better.” I actually think that this is the first week in a long time that I have answers for. For so many weeks I haven’t been able to come up with answers. All of the topics have been super difficult for me. But FINALLY, we get an easy one! There are so many series that have gotten better over time, but today I am here to share with you 5 of my favorites!

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas:
This series definitely had the biggest change! I found that I really disliked the first book. I still don’t know why I didn’t like the first book, but I’ve been blaming it on a book slump for the past year. But, this series definitely got better! Crown of Midnight started slow for me, but it was as if there was a change of events half way through. Beyond the half way point of Crown of Midnight, I absolutely loved this series. All of the action started to pick up and we started to see the real Aelin, the real meaning of the series. Although I am not super excited for Tower of Dawn (released September 5), I will definitely still give it a go and see how Sarah J. Maas develops Chaol’s character!
The Illuminae Files by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff:
Did anyone else find that the sequel was better in this series? Or was that just me? I loved Illuminae when I read it. I loved the concept of using messages, confidential files and written versions of security tapes instead of regular chapter organization. But, I found myself having more interest in Gemina over Illuminae. I still don’t know if it was the characters or even the plot, but I liked it more. I ended up “originally” giving both 5 stars, but I would probably downgrade Illuminae to 4.5!
The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater:
Over the last year, I have reread the Raven Boys twice. During both of those read-throughs, I didn’t find myself liking it. I mean, I LOVED the characters and I enjoyed Maggie’s writing style, but the book was slightly too slow for me. But, I was so happy that I picked up The Dream Thieves because IT WAS BETTER. Not by much, but it was. The storyline picked up and I found myself liking the characters even more! I definitely plan on continuing this series in the future. Even though I am still not a huge fan of the series, I feel like it still has lot of potential.
The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare:
Ahh, Cassandra Clare’s debut series. This is actually on of my favorite series, but I didn’t find that I truly enjoyed the series until the last few books. The funny part about this is that I actually count City of Bones as one of my favorite books, but City of Heavenly Fire is 10x better! The series really developed over time and I found that you could really see a huge change in Cassandra Clare’s writing. From City of Bones to City of Heavenly Fire, the series definitely got better!
The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer:
So far, I’ve only read the first two books in this series. And I will admit that there is NOTHING bad about either. They are both fantastic and I would highly recommend that you pickup this series if you haven’t. But, I did find Scarlet to be a lot more entertaining than the first novel. The story line picked up where the previous book ended and continued into this beautiful story. Even the audio book for this one was good! Everything about Scarlet was an improvement from Cinder. I still need to read the rest of the series but, I already know that I’m going to love it!
