When I first saw the cover for this book, I just knew I needed it in my hands! It is to die for! It features numerous elements of the story, but the way the background colours mix together was what caught my attention. They make you anticipate both a whimsical and magical story, which is exactly what Sara Crawford has written for the world.

The cover of this book is gorgeous, and so is the story line. Although Sara Crawford’s writing isn’t overly lyrical, she worked some wonders with her genius idea of muses. When you first start reading this book, you start to feel as if you are reading your everyday contemporary novel. But, if this novel falls into any genre, it falls into Urban Fantasy. The author took aspects from Ancient Greek mythology and present day music to bring readers a dream story.

Music was one of the biggest parts of this novel. The title is even named after a popular M83 song! Our main character, Sylvia, grew up playing music with her dad. Her mother left at a young age and all she was left with was her music-loving dad. So, during her years as a child, she was able to learn how to play different instruments including both the drums and guitar. She also got into rock/alternative music early on, being said to love artists like Muse, M83, and The Smashing Pumpkins.

The unique thing about Sylvia is that she can see flickering people, known as muses. Muses were originally a part of a Greek myth, but in We Own The Sky, they are basically people who have died in the past and now roam earth to inspire artists. And truthfully, it doesn’t have to be musicians. It could be writers, painters, photographers, actors, etc. Anyone who could create a piece of art could be possibly inspired by a muse. For Sylvia, she was a musician.

Most people can’t actually see their muses, they just get inspiration from them. But, Sylvia was able to see them and that’s how she met Vincent, our va-va-voom hottie in the novel. To Sylvia, he was known as the “British hottie who flickers in the back of my Chorus class.” But to most, he wasn’t even visible.

This book has just released and I really do not want to spoil anything for anyone so, I’m just going to leave my thoughts there. But, below you will be able to find the official book trailer for this novel that I definitely recommend watching!

There was so much I liked, but one thing I really hated…

And honestly, it has nothing to do with the writing, characters or the overall story. It had to do with the format. The length of sentences per page was constantly changing. Some pages were only three-quarters of the way filled, while others went all the way down to the numbers at the bottom. This is in no way a mistake by the authors, probably just a simple publishing error.

Overall…

I ended up really enjoying this book and am so grateful that the author offered me an early copy. It was super well-written and addicting that I found myself not being able to put it down.

I gave this book 4/5 stars and would definitely recommend that all of you pick it up. Indie authors have a harder time getting their books out to the world, but Sara Crawford’s definitely should be read by everyone! If you are a fan of music, Greek mythology, and dreams, I would definitely recommend you try this novel.
