Life Update! (School, Hiatus, Reading)

LIFE UPDATE! (1).png

Hello, hello! It’s been a while since the last time I posted anything. Over a month to be exact. And if I’m being completely honest, I haven’t been involved in the reading world since I last posted. Life has been busy, but I have had some time to collect my thoughts and get the motivation to post again.

Now, when most book bloggers go on a hiatus, it’s because they fell into a book slump. However, that isn’t how my absence started. In the past, I haven’t been having that regular “want” to read that most readers get. It felt more like I “needed” to read. And honestly, I enjoyed reading so much that I didn’t mind it at first. However, after some contemplation, I started asking myself if reading was actually right for me. Was this just a hobby that I would end up quitting? So, I ended up challenging myself to taking a break from reading.

Let me just tell you, taking away something really important is quite the experience. At first, I didn’t know what to do in my free time. But, after a few weeks, it started to feel more like myself again. It was just me without books. However, often times I would end up contemplating if I should pick up a book or not. And most times I ended up going back to my phone and spending hours scrolling through random YouTube videos. But, I’ve started to not like the idea of spending my free time watching the lives of other people.

So, here I am now. I haven’t picked up a book in over a month, but I feel like after getting back into blogging, things will change. I want to use my blog as motivation to read more. Knowing that I have only finished one book this year is very depressing. However, I know that with enough motivation, I can go back to reading every day! I cannot wait to get back to doing what I love!

So, you may also be thinking something along the lines of “What did you do while you were gone?” Well, school has been a big priority for me. I wrote my first semester exams, and have now started my second semester of my Sophomore year of high school. Although my current classes are quite challenging, I am enjoying all of the new information I am learning. Along with school, I have also been playing on my school’s junior varsity basketball team. I truly am not the greatest player, but games and practices add up for an amazing workout!

Besides that, my life has been pretty boring. However, I am hoping that reading will help make my free time more exciting. Before I wrap-up this post, I just wanted to thank all of you for sticking around during my hiatus. Somehow, this blog managed to reach 200 followers while I was gone, which is AMAZING! I cannot wait to get back to posting and talking about books with all of you!

Happy Reading,
Alaina

Where Have I Been? | Life Update

LIFE UPDATE.png

Hey everyone! It’s been over two weeks since my last post, and I think it is about time that I update all of you with my whereabouts. I really didn’t expect to be gone for such a long time, but it seemed to be necessary. In today’s posts,I am going to be explaining my extended hiatus, and what I did while I was away. I will also be talking about what I am going to be doing with this blog in the future. Let’s get started!

Why was I gone?
I guess the easiest answer to this question is simply that schoolwork was taking over my life. I’ve had a pretty easy course load this semester, but we recently started some new units in my classes and let me just say that they haven’t been the easiest. We started doing a novel study on “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck in English. It’s not awful, I’m just not the biggest fan of classics. To go with the novel study, we also have to answer questions after every chapter. To say the least, this novel study has been knocking out most of my after school free time. We are also in our hardest math unit of the year, which isn’t helping to free up any of my free time. But, now that I have had a little bit of inspiration to start blogging again, I think that I am going to try to open up as much free time as I possibly can to talk about books with all of you!

What have I read while I was gone?
Let’s just say that it definitely isn’t as many books as I would have hoped to read. But, they were both amazing and super enjoyable. If There’s No Tomorrow by Jennifer L. Armentrout blew my mind. There’s no doubting how good it was. It made me laugh like there truly is no tomorrow, and cry until my eyes couldn’t let out anymore tears. If you are looking for an amazing YA contemporary, this is the one for you! I also read A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas while I was gone. There’s no doubting it, I am a sucker for Maas’s fantasy worlds and amazing characters. The final book in her ACOTAR trilogy definitely didn’t size up to ACOMAF, but I still really enjoyed it.

What do I plan to do with this blog in future months?
Now this is the real question since I plan to avoid as many hiatuses as possible. I don’t plan to really mess with my current schedule, but I do want to state a few things about it. Teaser Tuesday will still be occuring weekly, but Top 5 Wednesday may not be. My Top 5 Wednesday posts are something that I need to draft on weekends and they strictly depend on how much free time I have. I will still try to get a tag/award post up every Friday and reviews wills till be happening every Sunday. I think that 4 posts a week is the perfect amount to keep me satisfied.

Before closing this post, I would like to thank all of you for sticking by while I was gone. We all need to leave for a little while, right? But I cannot believe how many of you are still here! Let’s hope for no more hiatuses in my blogging schedule and hundreds of more posts to come!

Happy Reading,
