Some loves will last ’til your dying breath

Every choice has consequences—but seventeen-year-old Layla faces tougher choices than most. Light or darkness. Wickedly sexy demon prince Roth, or Zayne, the gorgeous, protective Warden she never thought could be hers. Hardest of all, Layla has to decide which side of herself to trust.

Layla has a new problem, too. A Lilin—the deadliest of demons—has been unleashed, wreaking havoc on those around her…including her best friend. To keep Sam from a fate much, much worse than death, Layla must strike a deal with the enemy while saving her city—and her race—from destruction.

Torn between two worlds and two different boys, Layla has no certainties, least of all survival, especially when an old bargain comes back to haunt them all. But sometimes, when secrets are everywhere and the truth seems unknowable, you have to listen to your heart, pick a side—and then fight like hell…

I have waited months to get my hands on this book. According to Goodreads, I’ve been waiting since March to overcome that major cliffhanger and find out who Layla ends up with. When I was thinking about books that I wanted for my birthday, this one automatically popped into my head. Fortunately, my mom bought it for me! So, if you decided to actually scroll down this far, rather than just look at the email title, THANKS MOM ❤

For those who don’t already know, Every Last Breath is the final book In Jennifer L Armentrout’s paranormal romance series, The Dark Elements. It follows the Layla Shaw, a half-warden, half-demons whose kiss could lead to fatalities. As she has the ability to “steal” souls with kisses, she has trouble getting into a romantic relationship. But when she is faced with Zayne, a warden she has known since she was little, and Roth, the crown prince of Hell, she fell into a bit of trouble. I mean, who wouldn’t when you are squeezed between two smoking hot dudes!

What I liked…

I have read so many reviews of this book that said something along the lines of “this wasn’t a good ending to this series.” Whenever I read those I get a little bit shocked since I found that there was absolutely NOTHING wrong with this book! If you are as big of a fan of Paranormal Romance, this series is a MUST! You will love it.

If I do say so myself, Layla is quite the badass female heroine. Jennifer L. Armentrout is pretty much known for writing awesome females, but I think that Layla just one-upped Katy. I mean, she is a mix of everything. After reading this book, you start to wonder what it is like to know AND be friends with numerous hot guys, manage being one of the most dangerous beings on Earth and save the world. I’m trying to figure out if that is better or worse than being under a pile of homework.

Now, I don’t think I can wait any longer to talk about an extremely demon. And no, I don’t mean Cayman! Astaroth, the Crown Prince of Hell has officially stolen my heart and has been added to my book boyfriend list. He is smoking hot (no pun intended), covered in tattoos and definitely not the type of boyfriend my mom would ever say yes to. But, I especially loved him in this book since he let his kind side loose. If you looked back on the Roth we saw in White Hot Kiss, it’s almost like I am talking about a whole different person. But, Roth is definitely a hotness OVERLOAD that everyone needs to meet.

I don’t think we should forget about talking a little bit about Zayne. He was never the one I wanted Layla to end up with, so I was never really a fan of his. But, I was always able to appreciate him throughout the series. He might’ve been a little jealous once Roth came into Layla’s life, but he was always there for her. From the moment she started to live at the Warden “mansion” until to the day he dies, he cares for her, which kinda sorta melts my heart.

Another thing that I really loved about this book were the familiars. These are basically little demon tattoos that can come to life. Like, how cool? How Jennifer L. Armentrout thought of these super badass tattoos? BEATS ME! But they are super cool and I would definitely recommend reading the series just for them.

The romance in this book was what really made me love it. The author made us wait so long for the romance we were all craving in this paranormal series. Honestly, this book had the best romance out of the whole series. Of course, the whole series had little bits and pieces of romance, but this one was the real deal! Okay, okay, if you couldn’t tell already, this was definitely my favorite book in the series.

What I didn’t like…

One word. Bambi.

Favorite quotes…

“I, Astaroth, Crown Prince of Hell, am in love with you, Layla Shaw. Yesterday. Today. Tomorrow. A hudred decades from now, I will still be in love with you, and it will be as fierce today as it will be a decade later.”

Overall…

I definitely gave this 5/5 stars. It was everything I could’ve wanted for this series’s finale. This book made me laugh and cry like there is no tomorrow. If you have read the first two books, White Hot Kiss and Stone Cold Touch, definitely pick up this book. If you haven’t even started this amazing series yet, I am begging you to run to your nearest bookstore and grab a copy of White Hot Kiss. It will be totally worth it.
