Hey everyone, and welcome back for another top 5 list! This week’s theme is creepy settings and I am SO. FREAKING. EXCITED. to discuss this. Creepy settings is one of my favorite things about a thriller. But, I do have some requirements for a good creepy setting. Here they are:
- The setting must be able to give me chills at any time
- The setting must creep me out enough to make me hide under a pile of blankets
And that’s it. So, below are some creepy settings that always hit these requirements for me!
- Dark and silent houses in the middle of the night:
Does anyone else find that every paranormal book features a certain scene towards the end of the novel where the main character walks into a dark, empty house in the middle of the night. As we all know, nothing good happens at night, and usually, the antagonist of the novel is waiting. Although I can usually foreshadow what will happen, these scenes still end up creeping me out, so I thought it would be perfect to add to this list! - The Midnight Theatre from Lady Midnight:
Anyone else find this to be so creepy? I did. I read the whole “lottery” scene late at night, and I was totally creeped out by it. I don’t even know why, because I don’t think most people were scared of it. But the whole vibe of the abandoned theatre creeped me out. - Cabeswater from The Raven Cycle:
Does anyone find Cabeswater to be creepy? I didn’t the very first time I read it, but during my reread of the first book, I couldn’t help but get chills. It just has such a creepy vibe! - Dark forests:
I swear, these don’t even have to be the setting of fiction to creep me out. They would seriously creep me out in real life. But, how many times has your favorite character debated walking into a dark, creepy forest and you start screaming “NO. DON’T YOU DARE GO IN THERE!” A lot of times? Same.
And once again, you are getting a top 4 list. Whoops! But, I am in a bit of a rush tonight and am unable to think of anything else to add to my list. But, definitely leave a comment down below with some of your favorite creepy settings, because I would love to know! Also, be sure to like and follow to stay up to date with all of my future posts!
Happy Reading,
Alaina
Hi Alaina! Love that you listed places!! I soooo agree about the woods! STAY OUT, come on, haven’t you watched horror films before! And of course Cabeswater from The Raven Cycle (but why did I forget it for my own list!? *cries*)

Thank you so much! I really don’t understand why so many characters risk going into dark places! It’s so stupid and expected. And yes, Cabeswater!
