Top 5 Wednesday: Second Book Is Best

Hey Book Nerds, and welcome back for another Top 5 Wednesday! This week’s topic is: second book is best. We have all read those series where the sequel turns out to be better than the first book. It doesn’t happen too often, but it does. So, today I am going to be sharing some sequels that I thought were better than the first book!

1. A Court of Mist And Fury by Sarah J. Maas:
   I think that every reader has heard about the A Court of Mist and Fury rave. And if you haven’t, you probably haven’t logged on to any social media platform in the last year. A Court of Mist and Fury is the second book in Sarah J. Maas’ A Court of Thorns and Roses, and is undeniably better than the first book! We were introduced to so many amazing fae, lands that we didn’t get to explore before and so many magical quotes. This book truly is a work of art and I’ve heard hardly anyone say that this book is worst than the first. That is, unless you were a Tamlin lover. If you have yet to read this book, here are two simple things to know about it: chapter 55 and the quote below:
   “To the stars who listen, and the dreams that are answered”

2. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins:
   I don’t talk about The Hunger Games a lot on my blog, but it was one of the series that got me into reading. I adored the first novel when I read it back in seventh grade. But I absolutely LOVED Catching Fire. A lot of people say that catching Fire is the worst in the series, but I cannot agree with them. Who could actually say that after being introduced to the ever-so-lovely FINNICK ODAIR! Ahh, just writing this is bringing back memories of 12-year-old Alaina falling in love with him. He was gorgeous. But, I found that catching Fire was more eventful, and eye-catching than the first book!

3. Rebel Angels by Libba Bray:
   If you’ve been reading my blog in the past month, you may have figured out that I’ve been reading the Gemma Doyle trilogy by Libba Bray. I currently have a love/hate relationship with this series, but I did find that the second book was the most intriguing. The first book was all right, and the final book – we’re just not going to talk about that one. But, I really enjoyed the second book. It was a continuation of Gemma’s magical journey and we finally got to explore Victorian London! There was a butt-load of plot twists and cliff hangers and I couldn’t help myself from gasping. Rebel Angels was a great sequel, even if I read it in the opposite season.

4. Prodigy by Marie Lu:
   I believe that most of you would have heard of Marie Lu’s Legend trilogy. If not, it was her debut series that came out prior to The Young Elites. It’s an amazing series and I highly suggest that you all pick it up. But, as I was thinking of stellar sequels, I couldn’t help but think about Prodigy. There’s this one “prince charming saves the damsel in distress” scene that I think of every time I see this book. But besides that, it was just amazing! I was absolutely mind-blown and speechless once I finished it, and not even the tear-worthy epilogue of Champion could beat it. If you are interested in an AMAZING dystopian series, check out Marie Lu’s Legend trilogy. You definitely will not regret it.

5. Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff:
   I have spoken about my love for The Illuminae Files many times on my blog, but some of you may not know that I prefer Gemina over Illuminae. It isn’t a super big preference but I found Gemina more intriguing. I have a lot of memories with both books, but the speed that I read the books was my give or take. I remember lying on a mattress in a freshly painted room, reading through Illuminae. It took me numerous days to finish it, but I remember loving the writing format! Then came Gemina and I instantly fell in love, and ended up speeding through the novel. Although I am an avid reader, I am also a pretty slow reader so whenever I can breeze through a novel, I just know it’s the one!
