August has finally arrived, and that means that I have a brand new TBR pile for the month. Last month, I wasn’t able to successfully finish my TBR. I ended up getting to 4/7 books and spent the last 2 weeks of the month reading different books. Sometimes your mind wanders off the TBR and you end up picking up other books. But, August is the month for kicking as many books off my TBR as I possibly can. It’s my last month on break and I plan to spend the majority of it reading. Now, let’s get into the books!
Oblivion by Jennifer L. Armentrout
I am currently doing a little spontaneous reread of this book! As most of you will know by now, this is a part of my favorite series and I have a huge tendency to re-read the series OFTEN. For the most part, I do this when I fall into a slump, but the book I was reading before this (see below) was boringly slow. So I decided that I would say a little hello to Daemon Black. Oblivion has been fantastic so far and I haven’t even got to my favorite scenes yet!
The Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray
If you saw that little “see below,” this is where you should be. I started reading this trilogy last month and I loved it. I think I ended up giving the first two books 4 stars each but I can’t quite get into this book. The writing seems so much slower and the characters seem younger than their actual ages. It just doesn’t seem like the right book for me. I am still deciding if I am going to continue this book, but there is a good chance that it is going to go in my DNF pile.
Room by Emma Donoghue
Rimpy over at Rimpys Reads recently posted a non-spoiler review on this book and it literally made me want to drop my current read and pick it up. She made this adult book sound amazing! I originally heard of Room around the time when the movie was coming out. It sounded super interesting and I was able to find a copy of the book at a used book sale. I don’t really read books from the perspective of young kids, so I think that this book will be really interesting!
The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon
I’ll be totally honest, I have no clue what this book is about. It’s been very hyped in the past few years and seeing that it has such a beautiful cover, I just had to get it! Alike Room, I was able to get a copy of this at a used book sale, which was really great since the book would’ve cost me $30 at Chapters. Expensive, I know. But, I am going into this book very open-minded and am hoping to enjoy it!
The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen
I think most people in the YA community have heard of this novel in the past. In about 2015 (I think!), this book was super popular and was being read by EVERYONE. It was the book to read that year. So, when I saw that this book was over 70% off at Chapters, I immediately ordered it! It’s been sitting on my shelf for over a year now and I think it is about time that I give it a go.
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Me and Emily over at Who Gave The Write have actually chosen this book as our Bookalicious BOTM for August! There will be more news about the book coming in the next few days. But, we are so excited to read this together. I actually originally read this a few months ago, but I ended up audiobooking a majority of it and getting lost. So I am really excited to reread it and say hello to Kaz Brekker again!
And that is it for my TBR this month! I am probably going to pick up a few other books this month, but these are the ones that I am aiming to get to. Did any of you make TBRs for this month? Do we have any similar books on our TBRs? Leave a link to your post in the comments and I will definitely check it out!
Don’t forget to like, share, and follow my blog to stay up to date with all of my future posts!
Happy Reading,
Alaina ❤
