June Wrap-Up, Haul + July TBR!

Hey Book Nerds! June is finally over, and that means I get to write another one of these fun, but long posts! June was a pretty great reading month for me! Although I had school exams, I still made time to read quite a few amazing books! In total, I read six novels and one short story! Not too shabby for a month filled with exams and final assignments, right? Anyways, in today’s post I am going to show you all of the books I both read and hauled in June. Also, I’m going to show you all some of the books I plan to read this coming month! So, let’s get straight into it!

(All of the reviews I have written for the wrap-up are linked in the titles. For the hauled books and TBR, all of the links will take you to the Goodreads page.)

JUNE WRAP-UP:

  • Hym and Hur by Phillip Frey (Short Story)
  • Letters to Strabo by David Smith
  • If I Fix You by Abigail Johnson
  • Just Listen by Sarah Dessen
  • Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
  • Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare
  • A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

I actually ended up loving so many of the books that I read last month, and a lot of them ended up being 5-star worthy. As you can tell, I was in quite the contemporary mood last month. I find that it is slightly easier to read contemporaries during the final month of school. Unlike a fantasy novel, contemporaries don’t have as complicated storylines and they are some can be very realistic.

I started the month off with two review novels, Hym and Hur and Letters to Strabo. Sadly, I wasn’t a fan of Hym and Hur. I found it very confusing and non-descriptive. The author also dove straight into the story without giving us much of any character description. On the other hand, I actually ended up enjoying Letters to Strabo! It was a very informative, educational read and I found myself continuously flipping the pages. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find myself enjoying the first 100 pages, but the last 100 pages and ending were amazing!

And then I went into a contemporary fling. It doesn’t happen too often but it was a great time to get some of them off my TBR! I started out with If I Fix You, which I actually ended up picking up a few weeks prior, but I wasn’t in the mood for it. But, I loved it! It is a quite unknown contemporary but, if you like boy-next-door stories, you might enjoy this one! Next, I picked up my first ever Sarah Dessen novel! I always see her novels at used book sales and decided to finally pick up Just Listen. AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! The whole concept of the novel was beautiful and there wasn’t one minute of this novel that I didn’t enjoy! Finally, I toughened up and fought through Me Before You. It was such a beautiful novel, and I couldn’t help but cry by the end!

And then, I tackled both Lord of Shadows and A Court of Mist and Fury! lord of Shadows was one of my most anticipated books of the year, and it definitely didn’t disappoint! It was a wild ride of cliffhangers and plot twists. I still don’t know how Cassandra Clare wants me to wait until 2018 for the next book! I won’t survive! The final book I was able to read this month was ACOMAF! It took me a long time to read this book, but it was definitely worth it. I absolutely loved all of the characters and the whole Night Court vibe! And I was able to finish the 700 page book in 3 days! That’s insane!

JUNE HAUL:

  • Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon

18692431

Well, I am all about saving money on books! For the most part, I buy books at list price since I am unable to buy books online. And I’m in Canada so books are pretty pricey. But, when I saw an unbelievable sale on this book, I couldn’t pass it up. Like, $7.00 for a paperback is amazing here so I definitely had to get it! Although they didn’t have it in-store for the same price, my mom graciously bought it online for me! Thank mom, your the best!

JULY TBR:

  • The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater (my current read)
  • The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater
  • The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson
  • Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon
  • Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist by David Levithan and Rachel Cohn
  • The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
  • The Coldest Girl In Coldtown by Holly Black

I’ve got a mix of everything going on in July! My whole summer goal is to beat my TBR, so this is approximately a third of my physical TBR. I am currently rereading The Raven Boys to reintroduce my mind to Henrietta so that I can continue the series. The only other non-contemporary book on this list is The Coldest Girl in Coldtown, which I put down earlier this year. But, I’m always up to giving books another try!

The rest of my TBR is filled with contemporaries. Summer is the season for fun contemporaries so I decided to try to pick up a lot this summer! The Unexpected Everything is actually our BOTM for mine and Emily @ Who Gave the Write’s book club! I’m going to have a whole introduction to the club going up tomorrow, so stay tuned for that! Both Everything, Everything and Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist seem like such fun contemporaries that I will be able to just breeze through! Finally, I also plan to pcik up The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. Although this isn’t a super popular novel, it is always at thrift sales and I have heard quite a few people on Instagram love it. So, I’m going to give it a try!

THAT’S IT FOR TODAY! I hope you enjoyed today’s post! Don’t forget to like, comment and follow to stay up to date with all of my new posts!

Happy Reading!
