Top 5 Wednesday: Unlikeable Protagonists

Hey Book Nerds, and welcome to another week of Top 5 Wednesday! This week’s theme is “Unlikeable Protagonists,” but with a twist. It is actually your favorite unlikeable protagonists. It isn’t too often that I end up hating a main protagonist. Obviously I have hated MANY antagonists, but I usually always either like or love the protagonist. So, I am going to just list a bunch of protagonists that have a following of haters!

If you haven’t heard of Top 5 Wednesday, it is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely Goodreads moderators, Samantha and Lainey! If you are interested in potentially joining the group, you can CLICK HERE!

Anyways, let’s get straight into my list of unlikeable protagonists that I love!

  1. City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1)CLARY FRAY – THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS
I have spoken to so many people about Clary and the majority of them have spoken of hating her. But to this day, I still cannot fully understand how anybody could hate Clary! In the first book, she is being introduced to things that don’t seem real. The world of Downworlders and Shadowhunters would seem crazy to any mundane, as Clary thought she was. I, myself, ended up loving Clary’s character. I found her a lot like myself: art lover, nerd, family lover. But, a lot of people have described her as annoying. I could see her being slight annoying but not to an extreme level that I wound end up disliking her.

  2. Empire of Storms (Throne of Glass, #5)AELIN ASHRYVER GALATHYNIUS – THRONE OF GLASS
This is another character that people love and hate. The true haters of Aelin hated her in her Celaena days. But, I found myself loving Aelin ever since the beginning. She started out weak, but worked hard enough to regain her position as the strongest fighter in Erilea. She worked her butt off to get where she was at the start of Erilea. I feel like people hate on her because she continuously needs help being saved. But, I love that through all of her troubles, she was still able to make friends and find family members who care for her. And, I can’t help but love when ROWAELIN get reunited!

  3. Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1)KAZ BREKKER – SIX OF CROWS
Anyone who has not fully read Six of Crows can fully agree with me for this answer! Kaz is a thief, a gang member and an overall poor quality person. He was an evil to Ketterdam. But, the moment I figured out how much Kaz loved Inej, I couldn’t help but fall in love with him! He showed readers that even the most evil people can shed romantic emotions. All of my poor thoughts about Kaz were lost after that and now, I’m waiting with grabby hands fora hardcover of Crooked Kingdom!

  4. The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1)PEETA MELLARK – THE HUNGER GAMES
Well, this is a different answer than I expected to put in here. But, who didn’t hate Peeta in the first Hunger Games novel. He got picked to represent District 12 in the 74th annual Hunger Games but wasn’t even brave enough to stick with his teammate. WHAT A TRAITOR! He wanted to try to survive by making friends with the “tough guys.” It was such a bad idea. But, in the end, he realized that he truly needed Katniss’s help to win. If I just ignore the first book Peeta, I remember how much I loved his compassion, his courage, his kindess and how much I wanted some of his bread! #teampeeta over Gale any day!

  5. Obsidian (Lux, #1)DAEMON BLACK – LUX
Well, I am almost definite that all of you know how much I love Daemon! I even created a tag based off of him. But, I actually HATED him at the beginning of Obsidian, along with a lot of people who have read the book. He was an absolute D-Bag throughout the first book. But, you can’t help but love him during Onyx and the rest of the novels! He had his reasons to act super rude and I can’t help but loving him for it. Family comes before random girls, and that is exactly what Daemon was like.

THAT’S IT FOR TODAY!I hope you enjoyed my answers for this week’s theme! Don’t forget to like, comment and follow to keep up to date when I post!

Happy Reading!
