Hey Book Lovers! I’m really excited for this weeks Top 5 Wednesday because it is all about minor characters. In my opinion, minor characters are the ones that make a story more entertaining! Without them, stories would be pretty bland. They contribute to the conflicts and solutions in stories and make them stand out so much more. For example, Simon Cutters from the Lux series took the Katy Swartz to a school dance and inappropriately kissed her, which brought in Daemon and eventually brought in an even BIGGER conflict. Although sometimes we don’t love minor characters, they are necessary for a good book and some authors have created amazing characters that don’t get enough attention! SO, today I am going to be talking about my top 5 favorite minor characters!
(Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly blog segment hosted by Samantha and Lainey who run the Goodreads group of the same name. If you would like to check it out CLICK HERE!)
- All of the minor characters from the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout! (It would be betrayal only picking one)
I absolutely adore the Lux series and the minor characters make Daemon and Katy’s story so much more eventful. But there are just too many amazing minor characters that I can’t pick one. I love Dee Black because she’s an overload of happiness. I love Dawson Black, because he is literally the most sincere alien ever. I love Bethany Williams, because her passion for painting shines super bright. I love Lesa and Carissa, because their cat fights are hilarious. I love Kimmy, because she’s the popular girl that every high school needs. I love Luc, because you can’t help but love this little teenage mafia. And I also love Archer, because he is so protective and strong through the whole series. I’m pretty sure there are so many more minors but, those are a few of my favorites. - Ginger, Marna and Blake from the Sweet trilogy by Wendy Higgins
Once these three characters were introduced, I fell in love with the series SO MUCH MORE! The intensity that came with Anna and Kaidan’s relations lightened up when these minor characters came in! (And Kopano but, I don’t like him so we will just skip over him.) I love Blake because he is the California surfer boy everyone dreams of. I love Ginger because although she showed hatred towards Anna, she was such a strong character. And I loved Marna because she was someone that Anna could lean her head on for support. - Sophie Collins from The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare
Ahh I haven’t talked about Sophie in forever. But she is actually my favorite character from The Infernal Devices. There weren’t actually too many minor characters from this series but Sophie shined for me. She was an innocent housemaid who worked in the London Institute. She wasn’t even a Shadowhunter! But, unlike Jessamine, she was so kind and beautiful. I also really loved how she found love in the end. Not with someone she grew up with, but with a Shadowhunter! - Magnus Bane from The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare
WHO DOESN’T LOVE MAGNUS?!?! I think any TMI lovers could agree with me that Magnus is one of the most amazing minor characters EVER. Like wow, how could you not enjoy reading a story that features an ancient, glitter loving warlock. Although Magnus technically isn’t a main character, he definitely acts like one and contributes A LOT to the story! His character even brought some diversity into the books! I’m pretty sure his character is counted as bisexual, which is pretty cool. I’m not the type of person who hunts down diversity in books, but I find it super cool when it appears in books!
I actually do not have a fifth character. But, I guess I kind of did ten characters overall. So, that is basically it for today! Don’t forget to like, comment and follow for more posts!
Happy Reading!
