Hey Book Lovers! Today’s topic is “Summer Reads,” which really doesn’t go well with the weather here. Alike yesterday, it’s cloudy and gloomy and definitely DOES NOT feel like spring. Haha. But when does it ever feel like spring in a city that doesn’t have a steady weather system.
But, I really love that the “Top 5 Wednesday” group is starting early with the summer themes because I’m betting a lot of you are still suffering from the aftermath of winter. I’m kind of hoping that this will help me feel a bit “more in the summer mood,” because I definitely need it!
- Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout:
This is my ALL-TIME favorite summer read! I’ve read it 3 times during summer months and only once in the winter. It’s about a girl named Katy who moves to Ketterman, West Virginia with her mother for a “new beginning” after her father’s death. But their “new beginning” doesn’t start out well when Katy learns that her next door neighbors are two infinitely beautiful twins named Daemon and Dee. But it turns out the twins are aliens. The story is a whole rollercoaster of a rise of cliché romance and hilarious nerdy puns. And the main character is even a book nerd! This book is definitely a must for your summer TBR if you are a fan of aliens, science-fiction and of course, BOOKS!
- Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson:
The cover of this contemporary just screams SUMMER! How could you resist not adding a book with a cover that has ice cream, girls wearing shorts and sunglasses and lush green trees to your summer TBR?! I definitely couldn’t last summer when I devoured this book! This fun contemporary follows a girl named Emily after her best friend, Sloane disappears. But after days of trying to find hints of where Sloane could’ve gone, she finally receives a letter from her: a crazy To-Do list. And when I say crazy, I mean crazy! But I’ll let you read the book yourself to find out what those crazy things are. This book, along with any of Morgan Matson’s other books are definite summer MUST-READS!
- City of Bones by Cassandra Clare:
If you are going to read any fantasy book over this summer, it should definitely be this one. Or maybe you’re planning to reread a fantasy book this summer: PICK THIS ONE! I’m pretty sure most people have read this book but if you haven’t, be sure to join the bandwagon this summer! City of bones follows a young artist named Clary as her true self is revealed: a Shadowhunter. She meets a bunch of other Shadowhunters throughout this novel and learns the ways of life as one. This book is definitely a must read and if you haven’t read it yet, you must go to your local bookstore immediately!
- The Secret Diamond Sisters by Michelle Madow:
Another contemporary novel for the readers out there that love a cute, fun and dramatic novel. Michelle Madow isn’t a super famous YA author but this series is one of my favorite contemporaries! The Secret Diamond Sisters follow three sisters who move from a small California town to a penthouse in Las Vegas after learning that their father”s a billionaire. After moving, they meet some lovers, some friends and some enemies. This book is such a fun read for anyone who just needs a little something to brighten their days! Highly suggest this one if you absolutely love contemporaries, because you will definitely love this!
- Cinder by Marissa Meyer:
And last but not least, another science-fiction, because I have a slight obsession with action novels. Whoops! But I have a feeling that this one would be perfect in the summer! This novel is actually a fairy tale retelling of Cinderella…. but with CYBORGS! It follows a young cyborg mechanic named Cinder who is confronted by New Beijing’s prince to fix his robot. But, the prince ends up falling in love with Cinder and they definitely DO NOT live happily ever after. But, it’s such a great book that everyone should read in summer 2017! Okay no, everyone HAS to read it this summer!
THAT’S IT FOR TODAY! Hope you enjoyed this week’s “Top 5 Wednesday” post! Don’t forget to like, comment and follow for even more posts!
Happy Reading!
