MY THOUGHTS:
This book was on my TBR for such a long time before I actually got to reading it. That’s for two reasons:
- People have been criticizing this book for the longest time about it being too much alike Twilight. And I’ll be clear to start this review off, although it is a lot like Twilight, it’s alike it in a good way. A lot of YA literature is either created to mock Twilight or has taken a lot of resource off of it. Even one of my favorite series, Lux, has a lot of resemblance to Twilight. But every book is unique in their own way. And in some ways, Hush, Hush was nothing like Twilight
- Cliché 101: A lot of paranormal YA these days are VERY cliché. And although, I do love myself a good cliché and paranormal book, sometimes reviewers make it sound a bit too cliché. But, I’m always up for a book about fallen angels so I couldn’t help but read it!
But even with all of that said, I couldn’t be any happier that I read this book! It was the perfect mix of Twilight themed moments, fallen angel scariness, and the name Patch. If you love paranormal books, this one is perfect for you!
One of my favorite things about this book were the characters! I absolutely loved how Becca made all of the characters different from your typical YA novel. Usually, we read about the skinny main character with straight/wavy hair that attracts the bad boy. But, in Hush, Hush, the main character has flaws that make her unique and beautiful. Nora Grey has beautiful, long curly hair which isn’t found too often in YA. And her best friend, (who’s name I am currently blanking on) has a curvier build. Basically any time an author takes a risk and makes their characters different, I will love them.
So as I already talked about a lot, this book has a lot of relation to Twilight. And that seems to be one of the main reasons people end up disliking this book. Even I was warned by one of my friends. But, if you keep the thought of Twilight out of your mind, you lose thought of the whole relation between the books. Of course, there was stalker 101 books but there weren’t any Edward Cullens or vampires.
I actually plan on continuing this series super soon. I loved Hush, Hush a lot and cannot wait to dive back into Patch and Nora’s story! Hopefully soon too.
If you haven’t picked this book up yet, I suggest you at least try it. It’d be super cool if you guys could join all of the mixed reviews people have on books. But, in case you need a bit more insisting, this book was a quick, I-don’t-want-to-let-go-of-the-story for me.
