Reader Problem Book Tag

I was tagged by one of my bookish best friends, Emily (whogavethewrite) to do the Reader Problem Book Tag. Readers alike myself struggle with so many problems when it comes to books that some times there just aren’t any solutions. But we do get to read all of the wonderful books in the world so I guess that’s a solution. But I’m pretty sure that all readers struggle with one of the following two things: Book Slumps and Picking a Book To Read. Picking a book isn’t that bad but, BOOK SLUMPS ARE ABSOLUTE KILLERS! So, today I am going to be doing this tag and hopefully give you all some solutions for common reader problems.

1. You have 20,000 books on your TBR. How in the world do you decide what to read next?

To be honest, I just pick one. Yes, I know. That isn’t a cool trick at all. But, I usually plan little mini monthly TBR’s to give myself a goal of which books. So, I don’t do anything too special when it comes to picking books.

2. You’re halfway through a book and you’re just not loving it. Do you quit or are you committed?

I’m not one to give up on books. Even if I know that I will fall into a book slump, I still like knowing that I finished it. I don’t know why, I guess I just like that little feeling of accomplishment. But, I have never left a book as a DNF (Did Not Finish). If I’m really struggling to make my way through a book, I will usually just pick up a few others until I feel like I am ready to dive back into the book.

3. The end of the year is coming and you’re so close, but so far away on your Goodreads reading challenge. Do you try to catch up and how?

Well…. I already know that I’m not actually going to finish my Goodreads goal this year. Poop. But I do have an explanation on why I probably won’t finish it: A BOOK SLUMP. And even, a good chunk of the books on my read list for 2016 were off of Wattpad. But anyways, if I was off of my goal by five books by the beginning of December, I would probably try to catch up. Ten book? Nuh uh. Not going to happen.

4. The covers of a series you love do. not. match. How do you cope?

Hmmm. I DON’T. Mismatching books is a total weakness of mine. There are so many incredible series out there that have had cover changes half way through the series and it makes me just want to ball up in a corner an cry. I don’t know why the publisher like to make us all have mismatched shelves. But, I get through it and some how still make my shelves look as pretty as possible!

5. Everyone and their mother loves a book you really don’t like. Who do you bond with over shared feelings?

I usually go onto my bookstagram account or my goodreads account to talk to people about my thoughts. Or, I’ll also post a review on here and talk to all of you through the comments! But, there have been many different books I didn’t really like (Allegiant, Throne of Glass, Vampire Academy) and I have always been able to find at least one person who had the same feelings that I did. That’s something I love about blogging. I can always find someone with the same thoughts on books as I have.

6. You’re reading a book and you are about to start crying in public. How do you deal?

I just let it all out. Usually this happens at school and I get the usual “why are you crying” or “are you okay”. And then I just wave them off and give them the usual excuse….”BOOKS”. Some of them understand that an others just give me looks of pity. If I’m at the mall or some packed place, I usually just get weird looks of sympathy from everyone who passes me.

7. A sequel of a book you loved just came out, but you’ve forgotten a lot from the prior novel. Will you re-read the book?

It depends. I’m going to partially steal Emily’s answer and say that usually the authors give a little recap of the last books. So sometimes if I still remember some of the book, I will just dive into the sequel. But if the prior book was within 400 pages, what’s so bad about rereading it?

8. You do not want anyone. ANYONE. borrowing your books. How do you politely tell people nope when they ask?

I’ve actually never had anyone ask to borrow any of my books. None of my friends are into reading (aside from 1) so I never have had the problem of lending out books. But, if someone did ask to borrow my book, I would probably just tell them to keep the book in good condition which basically means not breaking the spine, bringing it near food or water. there is nothing I hate more than a water damaged book.

9. Reading ADD. You’ve picked up and put down 5 books in the last month. How do you get over your reading slump?

Reading slumps are plain weird for me. During them, I will only read Wattpad novels. So usually, I will read a few of those until I feel like I am ready to try a physical book again. And usually, I pick up a book that really doesn’t interest me so I go back into the slump. But a few books that were able to get me out of my slumps wee The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater and Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff.

10. There are so many new books coming out that you’re dying to read! How many do you actually buy?

I always really want buy new releases when they first come out but I never do. Recently both Empire of Storms and Gemina released and I really want to read both but I still haven’t bought either. But I really wish that I would go to the bookstore a bit more often so I could stock up on new releases!

That’s all for today! I hope you enjoyed reading this post and be sure to like, comment and follow my blog. Happy Reading! ~Alaina
