Review: After by Anna Todd

Hello bookworms and welcome back to my blog! As I am currently catching up on all of the reviews I need to get up, today’s post is going to be another review. But, unlike my usual YA reviews, today I am going to be reviewing a NA book. After by Anna Todd took the Wattpad app by storm. Millions of people read and loved the book. I didn’t really love it but once I heard that it was a published book, I had to get my hands on it. It’s not because I really needed a new book but more so the fact that it was edited and published!

I started out reading After on the Wattpad app in the summer of 2015. I really enjoyed it, aside from all of the mature parts (sex). So later that year, I got the book and it was left on my bookshelf for two months before I even decided to pick it up. Me and Pearl from BiblioPearl wanted to do a read along together and after hours of searching for a book we both had on our TBR’s, we found After. But sadly, she didn’t even get halfway through before counting it a “did not finish”. So then I just put the book back on my shelf and left it there to get covered in dust until this past July. I decided that I would push through and read it all over again. And that’s exactly what I did! Although I didn’t truly love it, it was still really fun to read!

Now, story time is over. Time to dive into the real review!

Synopsis:

Tessa is a good girl with a sweet, reliable boyfriend back home. She’s got direction, ambition, and a mother who’s intent on keeping her that way.

But she’s barely moved into her freshman dorm when she runs into Hardin. With his tousled brown hair, cocky British accent, tattoos, and lip ring, Hardin is cute and different from what she’s used to.

But he’s also rude—to the point of cruelty, even. For all his attitude, Tessa should hate Hardin. And she does—until she finds herself alone with him in his room. Something about his dark mood grabs her, and when they kiss it ignites within her a passion she’s never known before.

He’ll call her beautiful, then insist he isn’t the one for her and disappear again and again. Despite the reckless way he treats her, Tessa is compelled to dig deeper and find the real Hardin beneath all his lies. He pushes her away again and again, yet every time she pushes back, he only pulls her in deeper.

Tessa already has the perfect boyfriend. So why is she trying so hard to overcome her own hurt pride and Hardin’s prejudice about nice girls like her?

Unless…could this be love?

My Thoughts:

I thought this book was truly enjoyable! There were quite a few parts that I found too hard for my eyes to read but, the rest was really good! And knowing that this was Anna Todd’s debut novel I already know that her future books are just going to get even better!

I loved reading about a girl going into her first year of college! Of course, you don’t find that in the YA section but, its quite a big topic on Wattpad. This was my first NA book and it definitely didn’t disappoint. Although I’m not to big of a fan of reading ‘detailed’ make out sessions, the rest of the book had nothing to lose.

Tessa Young is so alike all of us bookworms. She is a huge fan of classic novels and is n English major at college. And two thumbs up to her for loving The Fray! if you haven’t checked them out yet, you are totally missing out. But aside from her book and music taste, she is a really strong character. She usually ends up crying when she fights Hardin but for the most part, she can stand her ground. But, she has definitely brought her life down a dark path with Hardin. He is that person who is constantly indecisive and for the most part: REALLY ANGRY. When Hardin is angry, you don’t want to mess with him, Or else you may come out with a black eye like Landon does.

There are so many characters in this novel and or the most part, they all have tattoos. Well aside from Tessa, Noah and Tessa’s mom. But by the fifth or sixth chapter we start getting introduced to so many different characters! Hardin, Landon, Molly, Steph, Zed, and so many others that I am currently blanking on their names.

3/5 stars

So that’s all I have for today! I hope you all have a wonderful day and I’ll probably be back tomorrow!

Until next time, Happy Reading!

Alaina
