Hello everybody! Recently, I received the amazing opportunity to do a Q&A with the author of The Secret Diamond sisters, Michelle Madow. I read the series back in the summer and fell in love. But, Michelle recently came back with more books, releasing the first in a series, Elementals: The Prophecy of Shadows earlier this week. I was able to get and eARC of Elementals back in December and I’ve got to say, it’s incredible.
About the Book:
Elementals: The Prophecy of Shadows is the first in Michelle’s new series, Elementals. It is said that if you’ve read either the Percy Jackson series or The Secret Circle, you will love it. But, you do not have to read those series to love the book.
When Nicole Cassidy moves from sunny Georgia to gloomy New England, the last thing she expects is to learn that her homeroom is a cover for a secret coven of witches. Even more surprisingly … she’s apparently a witch herself. Despite doubts about her newfound abilities, Nicole is welcomed into this ancient circle of witches and is bedazzled by their powers–and, to her dismay, by Blake–the school’s notorious bad-boy.
Girls who get close to Blake wind up hurt. His girlfriend Danielle will do anything to keep them away, even if she must resort to using dark magic. But the chemistry between Blake and Nicole is undeniable, and despite wanting to protect Nicole from Danielle’s wrath, he finds it impossible to keep his distance.
When the Olympian Comet shoots through the sky for the first time in three thousand years, Nicole, Blake, Danielle, and two others in their homeroom are gifted with mysterious powers over the elements. But the comet has another effect–it opens the portal to the prison world that has contained the Titans for centuries. After an ancient monster escapes and attacks Nicole and Blake, it’s up to them and the others to follow the clues from a cryptic prophecy so that they can save their town … and possibly the world.
Q&A:
I was so excited to be able to get the opportunity to interview Michelle Madow. Well actually, I was ecstatic. Michelle has been one of my favorite authors since I started reading. She is an inspiration to me and I’m so happy I was able to do an interview with her.
Me: What is expected to be a part of the Elementals series?
Michelle: Magic, adventure and a bit of romance 🙂
Me: What was your favorite book to write?
Michelle: That’s such a hard question, because I love all of my books for different reasons! But I just finished writing Book 2 of the Elementals series – called The Blood of the Hydra – and I had a blast writing it. All I can say about it is that this series will get more and more adventurous as it continues!
Me: Why did you want to become a writer?
Michelle: I’ve always loved writing – creative stories has been something that my brain has done naturally since before I can even remember. I’ve written for fun since second grade, but it wasn’t until I took an Intro to Creative Writing class in my junior year of College that I ever seriously showed anyone my writing. Because writing had always been something I enjoyed, but I didn’t think anyone else would be interested in my stories, and I even doubted my own ability to write an entire novel. But my teacher and classmates loved the work I handed in for that class, and said that I absolutely needed to try. So I did, and I completed the draft of my first book by the end of my junior year.
Me: Which series do you prefer? the Secret Diamond Sisters or Elementals?
Michelle: I can’t pick one because they’re both so different! One of my favorite things about the YA genre is that there are books for every mood. As a reader, I read everything from paranormal to contemporary to science fiction, and everything in between. so as a writer, it’s fun for me to write books that are different for each other. But it really is impossible for me to pick a favorite!
Me: What other series than Percy Jackson would Elementals relate to?
Michelle: Definitely The secret Circle, because of the witchcraft. Some people have told me that it slightly has Harry Potter vibes, but that’s the BIGGEST compliment ever, because I’m a huge Harry Potter fan and could never compare myself to the genius of JK Rowling!
Me: What is it like knowing that you have books selling on bookshelves around the world?
Michelle: It’s incredibly amazing. For my whole life, I’ve loved going to bookstores – I could sit there for an hour in front of the shelves, reading the descriptions of each book, deciding which ones I wanted to take home with me and lose myself in. So knowing that there are people out there who are doing that with my books is one of the most rewarding feelings ever.

About Michelle:

Michelle Madow has always loved writing stories, but the possibility of being an author used to feel more like a dream than a reality. She didn’t share her stories with anyone until her junior year of college, when she signed up for an Intro to Creative Writing course. Her teacher and classmates read the first chapter of a book idea she had, and they loved it so much that they told her she had to finish the book so they could find out what happened next. By the end of the school year, Michelle finished that book, which would later be published as her first novel.
Michelle grew up in Baltimore, and now lives in Boca Raton, Florida, where she writes books for young adults. Some of her favorite things are: reading, pizza, traveling, shopping, time travel, Broadway musicals, and spending time with friends and family. Michelle has toured across America to promote her books and to encourage high school students to embrace reading and writing. Someday, she hopes to travel the world for a year on a cruise ship.
